Intel honors Kontron for multicore commitment

-- Control Engineering, 11/2/2007

San Diego, CAIntel selected embedded computer builder Kontron to receive its “2007 Multi-core Alignment Award of Excellence” in the Alliance Hardware Member category. The award honors the Intel Communications Alliance member having the largest number and breadth of multicore products.

Kontron, a Premier Member, boasts over 30 products in a wide range of form factors and system platforms. The company, through its Alliance relationship, is able to develop computing platforms that use new processors in parallel with the Intel’s chip development, making it possible to introduce platforms using the chips as soon as the new devices are available. The company says this makes it possible for OEMs to get new designs incorporating new Intel technology to market faster.

Multicore processing is an example of this synergy. While some large software companies are still claiming that “applications for multicore processors are still ten years in the future,” measurement and control application development environment environments, such as the National Instruments LabView tool, are already optimized to make use of multicore processing, and embedded system vendors, such as Kontron, are providing the hardware to run the applications.
